Macau has reported a significant milestone in tourist arrivals during the initial six days of this year’s October Golden Week, with figures exceeding 1.05 million as per Macau’s Public Security Police. This marks a notable achievement for the region, which relies heavily on tourism as a primary economic driver.
The data reveal an average daily footfall of approximately 175,315 visitors, showcasing an upward trend compared to last year's average of 143,090. This increase underscores the growing popularity of Macau as a favored destination during this festive period.
The October Golden Week is celebrated annually and coincides with China’s National Day on October 1. It serves as a crucial time for both local economies and citizens looking to travel. Despite the holiday being shortened by one day compared to the 2025 calendar, the surge in arrivals is indicative of the continuous attraction Macau holds for travellers.
However, the Public Security Police have not specified the origins of these visitors. For the first five days, significant entry points included the Border Gate checkpoint with 497,273 arrivals, Hengqin checkpoint accommodating 227,754 visitors, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge serving 142,395 of them.
Further insights from the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) provide a deeper understanding of visitor dynamics. Of the 920,456 arrivals between October 1 and October 5, a substantial majority, precisely 797,532, hailed from mainland China. Visitors from Hong Kong accounted for 85,716 during this period, reflecting the close cultural and economic ties between Macau and its neighbors.
These figures highlight the importance of the Chinese mainland as the dominant market for Macau's tourism sector, emphasizing the region's focus on catering to these travelers through tailored services and attractions.
