Las Vegas Sands Corp is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations to enhance customer interaction and efficiency rather than substituting the human element in service delivery, according to Patrick Dumont, the chairman and chief executive of the corporation.
As he noted in a discussion with Bloomberg, his vision sees AI as a tool to further refine their operations rather than diminish the need for human touch. "We are a human capital business," Dumont emphasized, highlighting the intrinsic value employees bring to the company’s hospitality offerings.
While addressing inquiries about AI's potential to reduce the workforce, Dumont clarified, "That’s not really how we look at it. I think we look at it from the standpoint of making us better at what we do." Las Vegas Sands, the umbrella company of Macau casino operator Sands China Ltd and manager of the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, places a high value on its employees.
Dumont stressed the importance of human involvement, saying, "You need people who really care about the customer, who are focused on service, and who show up every day and are consistent."
He further explained that AI is not intended to replace these attributes but rather to enhance them, allowing the company to deliver service excellence more effectively. Besides aiding in customer engagement, AI helps refine approaches to reinvestment, improve guest experiences, and streamline promotional efforts. Dumont believes AI offers crucial business intelligence that makes interactions with customers smarter.
Additionally, AI serves as a tool to boost employee productivity and quicken the development of proprietary software, including marketing applications, making processes "much faster, much cleaner, and really, to be fair, easier to change and adapt," according to Dumont.
Las Vegas Sands’ commitment to long-term growth reflects in its strategic focus on Macau. Despite the fledgling stages of AI integration, Dumont conveyed optimism about the future, revealing, "It’s early days for us, but we’re starting to see some very interesting things from it and we’re very happy we’re pursuing it."
He also expressed enduring confidence in Macau's potential, noting ongoing non-gaming investments and renovations at The Venetian Macao aimed at crafting new captivating experiences for visitors. Dumont anticipates that these enhancements will help attract not only repeated guests but also new visitors from farther afield into Macau, contributing to its prosperity and ensuring the city remains a significant player in the global casino industry.
