Sands China Expands Responsible Gaming Training for Staff

In a move to enhance employees' competency in identifying gambling disorders, Sands China Ltd, a significant casino operator in Macau, has effectively trained 42 staff members as part of its Responsible Gaming Ambassador Advanced Training Programme's 11th edition.

Conducted in late August, this initiative focused on deepening frontline employees' understanding of gambling problems and equipping them with skills necessary to address such issues effectively.

According to a press release, the training included diverse methodologies, such as presentations, scenario-based videos, interactive games, and role-playing exercises, all designed to simulate real-world conditions.

This comprehensive training ensures that participants are prepared to manage potential gambling disorders they may encounter in their role. Upon concluding the programme, participants receive recognition through certificates from the International Gaming Institute at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), U.S.

Insights from Industry Experts and Advanced Curriculums

The current year's program notably featured sessions by Alan Feldman, who is affiliated with UNLV’s International Gaming Institute as the director of strategic initiatives. Feldman offered crucial insights into detecting the signs of gambling disorders and improved communication techniques for engaging with individuals experiencing such difficulties, sharing expert knowledge that enhanced the training objectives.

Additionally, Davis Fong Ka Chio from the University of Macau provided an overview of the responsible gaming policies being implemented in Macau and elaborated on emerging trends within the city's bustling gaming industry during the programme.

In enhancing practical intervention capabilities, senior counsellors from the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office detailed counseling resources and presented a structured four-step intervention model focused on effectively addressing gambling-related challenges.

Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility

Wilfred Wong Ying Wai, the executive vice chairman of Sands China, emphasized that responsible gaming remains a cornerstone of the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility. He affirmed that such initiatives are vital for the sustainable development of Macau's integrated tourism and leisure sectors.

Sands China's unwavering devotion to responsible gaming is evident, as all new employees undergo mandatory training in this area when they join the company. The advanced training programme commenced in 2013 and has since seen over 1,000 participants, with its curriculum reviewed annually to stay current with industry advancements and Macau's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau's standards.
