MGM China Holdings Ltd, a distinguished name among Macau's casino concessionaires, has recently unveiled a notable salary boost initiative, affecting a significant portion of its workforce. This strategic decision, effective from March 23, involves a pay increase ranging between 2.0 percent and 4.5 percent for its eligible employees. This initiative comes as a substantial acknowledgment of the invaluable contributions made by the staff members and underscores the company's commitment to rewarding performance and dedication.
This pay raise will be applicable to 99 percent of the company’s staff, highlighting the inclusive nature of MGM China's policy approach. The company operates two major resorts: MGM Macau on the city’s peninsula and MGM Cotai in the vibrant Cotai district. Employees who earn a monthly base salary of up to MOP16,000 (approximately US$1,992) will see their paychecks increased by MOP500 each month. This increment translates to a percentage rise between 2.0 percent and 4.5 percent, reflecting a considerable enhancement in their monthly earnings.
The chairperson and executive director of MGM China, Pansy Ho Chiu King, expressed her pride in the announcement, stating: “The company takes great pride in sharing the fruits of our collective efforts with all team members.” She further extended her appreciation by stating, "MGM extends its heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated team for walking alongside the company over the years and embracing innovative thinking to continuously elevate our products and services.”
This sentiment resonates strongly with MGM China's goal of reinforcing team morale and acknowledging collective efforts. This move is also part of a broader trend observed among Macau's six casino operators, all of which have declared salary increases this year. For those earning above the MOP16,000 threshold, a 2-percent increase will be the norm, aligning with MGM China's policy for higher-paid employees.
Furthermore, operators have committed to issuing various bonus payments for services rendered in 2025. This widespread initiative underscores a collective understanding within the industry: that acknowledging, valuing, and retaining talent is key to sustained success.
