In a remarkable display of competitive prowess, Wynn Macau Ltd has emerged as the dominant force in April’s premium mass table-betting survey conducted by Citigroup. This survey, which assesses the gaming sector's performance in Macau, identified Wynn Macau as the top performer in terms of month-on-month gain in the percentage of observed gaming wagers.
Wynn Macau achieved a significant leap, raising its share of the industry’s total observed wagers by 13 percentage points to reach 23 percent. This commendable improvement is attributed largely to the revamped and expanded Chairman's Club at Wynn Palace, a high-end facility known for attracting top-tier players.
According to analysts George Choi and Timothy Chau, this is the first instance of a single operator securing 'gold,' 'silver,' and 'bronze' in their whale watch report. "Whales," as defined by the institution, are high-value players who wager HKD100,000 or more. Wynn’s performance was highlighted by a standout player wagering HKD400,000 at Wynn's Encore.
Notable mentions also included two significant wagers at the Chairman's Club, with amounts of HKD330,000 and HKD300,000, respectively. Citigroup's survey indicated a substantial year-on-year increase of 11 percent in average wagers per player, rising from HKD18,139 to HKD20,203.
Furthermore, the analysts observed an impressive 63.2 percent rise in the "whale" population, from 19 to 31, alongside an overall increase in wager totals by 17 percent to HKD13.0 million compared to the previous year.
Despite Wynn Macau's stellar performance, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd continued to lead the survey with a 27-percent share of the total observed wagers, despite experiencing a slight decline of 4 percentage points from the previous month.
Meanwhile, MGM China Holdings Ltd, recognized for its MGM Macau and MGM Cotai locations, is not to be overlooked. Citigroup analysts recommend monitoring MGM as its recently inaugurated Masters Club at MGM Cotai offers a premium mass gaming room, with meticulously decorated interiors featuring 17 baccarat tables and private salons. During their visit, analysts reported seeing players with chip stacks exceeding HKD1 million.
Further diversifying their appeal, MGM China has introduced special FIFA World Cup edition Labubu dolls for player redemption, launched within a mere couple of weeks of their market release on April 2.
The survey also aligns with Macau’s vibrant entertainment culture, noting scheduled performances by major music acts such as Hai Lai A Mu, Kelly Chen, and Na Ying across venues managed by Galaxy, Sands China Ltd, and MGM Macau respectively.
