SJM Resorts Ltd, the operational arm of the Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings Ltd, recently reiterated its commitment to supporting local communities by donating MOP300,000 (approximately US$37,262) to the Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop.
This timely contribution marks the 14th consecutive year of the company’s involvement in the organization’s “Food Hamper” distribution initiative. Through this programme, SJM aims to offer care and festive blessings to those families in Macau experiencing financial hardship, according to a press release issued by the company.
Furthering their commitment, SJM’s Volunteer Team participated on March 7 in the distribution of food hampers and red packets to over 370 families benefiting from the program. In engaging directly with the recipients, SJM sought to convey its ongoing commitment to community service and social inclusion.
Established in 2013, the Welfare Shop has been instrumental in providing food and daily necessities to several thousand families each month who face financial challenges, assisting them to manage their living expenses better in underprivileged neighborhoods.
During a formal ceremony, Daisy Ho, managing director of SJM Resorts, presented the donation cheque to António José de Freitas, president of the Board of Trustees of Macau Holy House of Mercy. Reflecting on the partnership, Ms. Ho stated, “SJM has been privileged to work closely with SCMM over the years to support families in need through sustained donations and active volunteer engagement.”
She further expressed gratitude for the unwavering commitment shown by the volunteers and emphasized SJM’s future endeavors to forge deeper partnerships with local social service entities. The recent donation is part of a broader collaboration between SJM and SCMM that also encompasses the “My ElderFriend Programme.”
This initiative, targeted at residents of the Elderly Home of Our Lady of Mercy, was extended last year to involve bedridden and weaker residents. The program seeks to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of elder participants through frequent visits and community activities aimed at fostering a stronger connection within the community.
Since its inception in 2024, the “My ElderFriend Programme” has significantly impacted nearly 500 participants.
Speaking on future plans, SJM intends to maintain and expand its collaboration with local organizations to ensure a more inclusive and cohesive Macau. The primary aim remains addressing and supporting the needs of underprivileged families, with a particular focus on complex societal challenges.
This consistent support over the years signifies not only a corporate commitment to philanthropy but also a heartfelt mission to create a more harmonious environment in Macau. SJM’s strategic vision for social impact, which integrates with its business objectives, highlights the importance it places on community-centric values.
As the collaboration with SCMM demonstrates, targeted initiatives can make tangible differences in the lives of individuals and, as such, remain a priority for SJM. Through sustained engagement in these social welfare efforts, SJM aims to reinforce its role as a key stakeholder committed to the welfare and betterment of the community, ensuring that the prosperous future envisioned for Macau is shared by all its residents.
