SJM Resorts Hosts Golf Events to Foster Youth Engagement

SJM Resorts Ltd, an integral part of the Macau casino conglomerate owned by Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings Ltd, recently orchestrated two remarkable golf-themed events aimed at inspiring young people in Macau. These events, the "School Golf Discovery Day" and a "Golf Clinic," took place on October 16 and 17 at the celebrated Macau Golf and Country Club.

The initiative underscores SJM Resorts' commitment towards nurturing a culture of sports among the younger population in Macau, as they endeavour to enhance awareness and appreciation for golf. “Inspiration and guidance from professional golfers allowed students to experience golf and deepen their appreciation for the sport," stated the casino firm, emphasizing the significance of these events in promoting engagement with Macau’s burgeoning sports scene.

Spanning two days, these activities were attended by roughly 100 primary and secondary students from an array of local schools. This educational experience aims to spark a lasting interest in golf among the youth, contributing to their holistic development.

Golf Leaders Inspire Future Players

The "SJM Macao Open 2025," a highlight in the region's sporting calendar, was held from October 16 through October 19 at the same prestigious golf course. As part of the event, the "School Golf Discovery Day" featured decorated golfers like Chan Shih-Chang, who holds five Asian Tour titles, and Ding Wenyi, who achieved prominence as the first Chinese champion of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in 2022. Wenyi made headlines when he entered the ranks of professional golf last year.

On the subsequent day, the "Golf Clinic," aimed at offering deeper insights and skills in the sport, presented notable golfers including Matthew Cheung, a bronze medallist from the 2023 Asian Games, Pavit Tangkamolprasert, celebrated for his victory at the Macao Open in 2016, and Berry Henson, recognized for his second-place finish at the 2023 International Series Oman. These accomplished athletes shared their expertise and experiences, further igniting passion for golf among the young participants.

SJM Resorts' Commitment to Sports Development

Beyond its focus on bringing world-class international tournaments to Macau, SJM Resorts is dedicated to fostering community involvement and the development of youth sports. The company reaffirmed its long-term commitment as the title sponsor of the Macao Golf Open for the upcoming three years, reinforcing their strategic partnership with the local sports scene.

Co-organised with the Macau Sports Bureau and IMG, and co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Macau Golf Association, the SJM Macao Open stands as a testament to the firm's strategic initiatives aimed at elevating the profile of sports in Macau. Such events not only promote the expansion of sports in the region but also galvanize young talents, instilling a profound appreciation for golf that could transcend their youthful participation and influence their futures both on and off the course.
