SJM Resorts Ltd, the Macau operations branch of the Hong Kong-listed casino firm SJM Holdings Ltd, has announced the upcoming launch of a new “residency show” set for April 2025 at its grand venue, the Grand Lisboa Palace, located in Macau’s bustling Cotai district. The new show, titled “The Adventures of ALICE @ Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau,” is being produced in collaboration with the distinguished Hong Kong Ballet, a reputable classical ballet company that was established in 1979 in the neighboring city of Hong Kong. According to a press release issued by SJM Resorts last Friday, the show is inspired by the Hong Kong Ballet's original production “ALICE (in wonderland),” choreographed by their artistic director, Septime Webre.
The ballet company’s popular production, ALICE (in Wonderland), has already graced stages in Beijing, Hong Kong, and across the United States. The production is scheduled to perform in Singapore next month, demonstrating its international appeal and enduring popularity. For the Grand Lisboa Palace show, SJM Resorts is holding open auditions on January 11 and 12. The auditions are calling for “male and female dancers with strong ballet or contemporary dance skills.” Successful candidates will be offered short-term performance contracts, integral to delivering a captivating performance for audiences of all ages. In the words of the casino firm, “Under the mentorship of Septime Webre, and distinguished ballet masters, participants will refine their skills through professional-level rehearsals and innovative choreography in this residency show.” This emphasizes the high-caliber artistic mentorship and training that performers will receive.
The Adventures of ALICE @ Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, choreographed by Septime Webre himself, is set to be a noteworthy addition to the cultural offerings at the Grand Lisboa Palace. Rehearsals are expected to commence as early as March, paving the way for its official debut in April. The immersive experience promises to include a lively parade, whimsical performances, and interactive workshops, enriching the audience's engagement with the production. Performances will be held at the Atrium on Level 1 of the Grand Lisboa Palace, utilizing a 360-degree stage for a unique viewing experience. The show is planned to run on weekends and public holidays, ensuring access for a broad audience. This innovative show structure aims to offer a mesmerizing and unforgettable experience to attendees, blending traditional ballet with modern interactive elements.
