Sands China and NBA Cares Unite Over 2,900 Participants

Macau's bustling landscape recently hosted a significant event organized by Sands China Ltd, in collaboration with NBA Cares. This initiative, known as the "NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week 2026," unfolded over five impactful days, from October 7 to 11.

Conceived alongside the NBA China Games 2026, this program is a testament to the power of sport as a unifying force. The event combined basketball training, school outreach, and activities aimed at fostering social inclusiveness. Over 2,900 participants were drawn to this remarkable program, a number that speaks volumes about the reach and appeal of such inclusive community efforts.

Engaging Events and Activities

The roster of activities during the event was indeed extensive and varied. Participants were not only from Macau but also hailed from across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and Hainan province, illustrating the broad appeal of the initiative. The program catered to 200 young individuals with basketball training and friendly matches, where they had the opportunity to engage with players from the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets.

Furthermore, the event included a visit to the esteemed Yuet Wah College in Macau, enriching the educational aspect of the program. A pivotal moment was when erstwhile NBA stars, Stephon Marbury and Cuttino Mobley, assisted company executives in preparing and distributing 200 boxed lunches to those in need. This heartwarming gesture was made possible through a partnership with Happy Kitchen, part of the Fuhong Society of Macau, contributing to a broader goal of providing 1,500 meals.

Impact and Community Connections

Reflecting on the program, Patrick Dumont, Chairman and Chief Executive of Las Vegas Sands Corp and Sands China, remarked, "The programme demonstrated the power of sport to connect people, foster inclusion and inspire the next generation."

The culmination of this impactful event was a closing basketball carnival at The Venetian Macao, which united athletes from Macau Special Olympics, community groups, and dignitaries such as former NBA player Chris Bosh and Sands global ambassador David Beckham. Approximately 200 Sands Cares Ambassadors played pivotal roles throughout the week, supporting and bolstering the collective efforts.

Dumont also noted, "With the successful conclusion of The NBA China Games 2026, we are delighted to have extended the positive impact of this world-class sporting event into the Macau community, creating valuable opportunities for people of various ages and backgrounds to connect and engage."

This program not only showcased the transformative power of sports but also reaffirmed Sands China's commitment to vibrant community engagement and inclusivity.
