MGM China's Shareholders Sanction Final Dividend Payout for 2025

MGM China Holdings Ltd, a significant player in Macau's gaming industry, recently announced that its shareholders have sanctioned a final dividend of HKD0.353 per share for the fiscal year concluding on December 31, 2025. This news came after the company's annual general meeting, which took place the previous week. According to the filing submitted to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the dividend payout is scheduled for June 3. The approved dividend accumulates to slightly over HKD1.34 billion, accounting for about 26.4 percent of MGM China’s total profit attributable to owners last year, which was HKD5.07 billion.

Financial Performance and Interim Dividend

Back in August of the preceding year, the MGM China board declared an interim dividend of HKD0.313 per share for its shareholders. This move was a significant milestone, indicative of the company's robust financial performance. MGM China operates two major properties in the Macau region: the MGM Macau and MGM Cotai gaming resorts.

The company documented a 21.4-percent rise in fourth-quarter net revenue, culminating in a figure just shy of US$1.24 billion. Consequently, MGM China’s full-year net revenue for 2025 saw a commendable uptick, reaching US$4.46 billion, which represents a 10.9 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Anticipated Changes and Market Analysis

Despite the celebratory tone of these announcements, future projections stir some cautious sentiment among analysts. As noted in a report from brokerage firm Jefferies in December, there is a possibility of reduced dividend per share for the upcoming years, 2026 and 2027. This prediction stems from the anticipated rise in royalty fee percentage payable to MGM China’s parent company, MGM Resorts International, based in the United States.

Additionally, a commentary from JP Morgan labeled the newly-declared dividend as 'mediocre'. This critique was aimed at the combined total of the final and interim dividend payouts, which represent a '50 percent payout', leading to concerns over the sustainability of such disbursements in the light of the firm's financial strategy.
