Melco Resorts to End Operations at Mocha Grand Dragon

The Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel, a slot hall managed by a division of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd, will halt its operations at exactly 11:59 pm on Monday, November 24. This announcement came from the casino and entertainment firm through a press release issued on Wednesday. Located in the Taipa area, this facility is part of the Macau-based network of Mocha Clubs that specialize in slot-machine gaming.

Background on Recent Closures

Melco Resorts had previously shut down their Mocha Kuong Fat slot parlour alongside the Grand Dragon Casino, both situated in Taipa, as part of an ongoing operational consolidation. In June, the company had already indicated its intention to close the Grand Dragon Casino before the conclusion of the year, along with the termination of operations at three smaller slot parlours which included the Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel. Furthermore, the Mocha Hotel Royal, located on the Macau peninsula, is also scheduled for closure by the end of 2025 as part of the firm’s strategic plans.

Employee and Customer Considerations

The company outlined that the closure of the Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel would adhere to all existing regulations, with the process supervised by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, commonly known as DICJ. The collaboration with DICJ aims to ensure that the shuttering process is executed smoothly and orderly.

Moreover, Melco Resorts has detailed that electronic gaming machines from the closing venue will be redistributed amongst other casinos in Macau with DICJ’s approval. Local workforce previously employed at the Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel will be reassigned to different Melco Resorts' properties to secure employment continuity.

Remaining committed to its employees, the company strives for a seamless transition for the 44 workers affected. In addition to employee considerations, Melco Resorts assures that customer interests will be upheld post-closure. Patrons holding gaming slips from Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel will still be able to redeem these at various locations including Altira Casino, Mocha Inner Harbor, Mocha Golden Dragon, and Mocha Sintra Hotel.

This focus on customer care is part of Melco Resorts’ broader strategy to maintain its reputation as a customer-centric organization.
