In an optimistic forecast, Macau is preparing to welcome an average of 110,000 visitors daily throughout the months of July and August. This perspective was shared by Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, the director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), during comments made to local media outlets. Her projections indicate that this year might surpass the average visitor numbers recorded during the same period last year, which stood at approximately 107,628 daily arrivals. It marks a calculated increase of approximately 2.2 percent from the previous year, reflecting a potential upward trend in tourism after the challenges of the pandemic. In her remarks, Senna Fernandes noted that the initial days of July showed promising signs, with visitor numbers recorded as "good" during the first week of the month. This assessment came as part of an update provided on the sidelines of an event last Friday, where she also highlighted the swift uptick in tourism activities following a period of comprehensive recovery efforts.
The overarching recovery trend is not limited to visitor numbers alone; hotel occupancy statistics also paint a favorable picture. The MGTO director noted a return to pre-pandemic occupancy levels with an impressive 91 percent average for the first half of the current year. This resurgence echoes the conditions experienced in 2019, highlighting a robust revival of Macau's hospitality sector. As the city continues to monitor and report tourism data, the upcoming release of the first half's visitor data for 2025 is eagerly awaited. This report, expected from the city’s Statistics and Census Service, will provide further context and insight into the full spectrum of tourism dynamics during this anticipated recovery period.
