Increase in Cotai Concerts & Shows at Galaxy and Sands Venues

The Cotai district in Macau has witnessed a notable increase in the number of concerts and shows during the summer months. Leading casino firms, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd and Sands China Ltd, have collectively experienced a 13.6% uptick in such events for July and August. Sands China has been a major driver of this growth, contributing significantly to the rise when compared to previous levels.

The data encompasses performances hosted at both Galaxy Entertainment's premises, including the prominent 16,000-seat Galaxy Arena at the Galaxy Macau resort, as well as those organized by Sands China, notably at the 14,000-capacity Venetian Arena located at The Venetian Macao.

Corroborating this, a recent report by Citi pointed out that concerts and shows featuring big-name artists have been instrumental in escalating demand for gaming throughout early August, indicating an increase in Macau's casino gross gaming revenue (GGR).

Event Surge at Major Venues

For the months of July and August, Galaxy Entertainment and Sands China have organized a total of 67 show sessions, marking a 13.6% escalation compared to the 59 sessions from the same period last year, according to GGRAsia's report.

This analysis specifically focused on general entertainment shows, discounting sports events. Galaxy Arena has been the venue for 15 show sessions during these months, whereas The Venetian Arena recorded 11 such sessions. In contrast, the year 2025 saw Galaxy Arena hosting 18 shows and Venetian Arena presenting seven.

The majority of these shows were concerts headlined by artists from the Chinese-pop and Korean 'K-pop' scenes, with GGRAsia noting a high rate of ticket sellouts. Galaxy Entertainment's smaller Cotai venues, spanning Galaxy Macau and Broadway Macau, had scheduled 28 show sessions, an increase over last year's 27. On the other hand, Sands China reported 13 scheduled performances at venues like The Londoner Arena within the same summer timeframe, compared to just seven in 2025.

Competitive Landscape and Future Prospects

The summer offerings at these smaller venues predominantly comprised concerts, alongside special events such as fan meetings with pop stars, award ceremonies, stand-up comedy shows, and male dance performances. This flurry of shows was predicted by some analysts to counteract the dip in gambling interest caused by the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which ran from June 11 to July 19.

Sands China's president, Grant Chum Kwan Lock, during a quarterly earnings call with Las Vegas Sands Corp., expressed optimism about the robust lineup of shows for the remainder of the year. This lineup is expected to boost business across all segments of Sands China's properties.

Mr. Chum further elaborated, stating that the success of entertainment events in the first half of the year holds promise for the future, with significant highlights planned for August, September, and leading into the NBA games in October at The Venetian Macao. However, he acknowledged the stiff competition both within Macau and from regional cities.

On a broader note, the availability of entertainment acts has led to major casinos vying for star-studded performances, sometimes resulting in the same artist performing at multiple venues within a short time frame. For instance, the Chinese comedic duo Yue Yunpeng and Sun Yue are scheduled to perform separate shows at Sands China's The Londoner Arena and Wynn Palace.

Similarly, Hong Kong pop star Hins Cheung headlined for exclusive audiences at MGM Cotai before holding sold-out concert runs at Studio City.
