In a recent announcement from SJM Resorts Ltd, it has been confirmed that Casino Fortuna in Macau will "cease operations at 23:59 on 9 December 2025." This confirmation aligns with a prior internal communication viewed by GGRAsia, indicating that the gaming establishment, situated in the heart of Macau, is projected to terminate activities by December 10.
The decision stems from the ceasing of the satellite system currently employed by Casino Fortuna and similar venues, which allows third-party investors to share gaming revenues. This system will no longer be authorized post-2026.
The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has communicated that it remains actively engaged with Macau's Labour Affairs Bureau to ensure the 553 workers employed at Casino Fortuna are accommodated regarding their relocation and maintained employment rights. SJM Resorts has reiterated its commitment to redeploy gaming tables and machines from the closed facility to its "self-promoted casinos," ensuring minimal loss in its operational capacity.
For patrons with outstanding chips, deposits, or accumulated cash rebates at Casino Fortuna, SJM Resorts assures that these can be addressed at their self-promoted casino locations from December 10 onwards. "The company will ensure that all customer entitlements are duly honoured," they added.
Employees directly under SJM Resorts at Casino Fortuna are planned to be reassigned within the group's other establishments, focusing on roles that require gaming-related skills. Those not directly employed by SJM Resorts will receive priority consideration for available positions within the group, receiving appropriate support to facilitate their transition.
Concurrently, the DICJ reported the closure of another Macau satellite property, Casino Kam Pek Paradise, managed under a similar license by Paradise Entertainment Co Ltd. The operations concluded at 11.59pm on Monday night as previously announced, ensuring an orderly process upheld by public departments and the gaming bureau through "close interdepartmental cooperation."
SJM Resorts pledged to successfully relocate the 584 workers employed at Casino Kam Pek Paradise directly. These developments underscore significant shifts within Macau's gaming sector, as regulatory changes demand adaptations in business models for both casino operators and their staff. The focus remains on safeguarding employment and providing continuity amidst the evolving operational landscape.
