Citi Maintains Macau's July Casino Revenue Forecast

In an unwavering move, banking giant Citi has decided to retain its projection for Macau's casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) throughout July. The forecast stands firm at MOP21.0 billion, which equates to approximately US$2.6 billion. This forecast suggests a minor decline of 5 percent compared to the previous year. Such a projection is put forth by Citi with an anticipation that the gaming revenue of the city will witness further recuperation after the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Within the initial twelve days of the current month, Macau’s cumulative GGR was estimated to be around MOP7.3 billion, equivalent to MOP904 million. During the past week, the daily average GGR scaled to approximately MOP621 million. This figure showcases an enhancement of around 5 percent from the MOP590 million daily average tracked during the first few days of July, as noted by Citi through insights drawn from industry checks.

Impact of FIFA World Cup on Gaming Revenues

The improvement in the daily average GGR trend is likely a reflection of the fewer World Cup matches conducted last week—only eight, in contrast to 14 in the initial days of July. This reasoning was suggested by the banking institution. Citi added factual insights, stating: “Based on industry sources, VIP volume fell circa 0 percent to 3 percent month-on-month and mass GGR fell about 2 to 4 percent month-on-month.”

“With just four soccer matches left in the World Cup tournament, we hold the belief that Macau’s GGR will persist in recovering. Following the tournament's finale, Macau's vibrant event calendar is expected to expedite the return of Macau’s GGR to its normal levels,” Citi remarked. The final phase of the FIFA World Cup is scheduled for July 19.

Macau's Event Calendar Set to Boost Recovery

As anticipated, after the World Cup concludes, an array of entertainment events hosted by various Macau casino operators will further invigorate the region's casino environment. According to a comprehensive review of promotional materials by GGRAsia, numerous concerts and shows are scheduled for the rest of July and into August.

Among the notable events are three performances of the renowned Chinese-pop concert “The Music of Chan Fai Young: King of Pop,” featuring artists such as Eason Chan, Joey Yung, Bibi Zhou, Gigi Yim, and Siu Fei, at Galaxy Arena between July 24 to July 26. The same venue, managed by Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, is slated to host two concerts by Chinese pop star Henry Lau in August, along with the extravagant “Tencent Music Entertainment Awards 2026,” and a performance by the popular South Korean pop band i-dle.

At the Venetian Arena, part of Sands China Ltd's operations, concerts by South Korean pop groups AND2BLE and ITZY, alongside renowned Hong Kong star Louis Koo, will entertain audiences from late July through to August. Galaxy Entertainment and Sands China are not only hosting large events but also organizing several smaller yet significant performances across their Cotai properties during the summer.

Studio City, promoted by Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd, is prepared to welcome Hong Kong pop singer Hins Cheung at the end of July, followed by South Korean artists P1Harmony and Donghae in August.
