The Venetian Arena in Macau, a newly revamped and branded venue, is set to host prestigious National Basketball Association (NBA) preseason games in October 2025. This exciting sports event will feature two prominent NBA teams, the Brooklyn Nets and the Phoenix Suns, scheduled to play on October 10 and 12, respectively. The announcement came from Sands China Ltd., the promoter of this event. This agreement marks a significant milestone for Macau, as the city establishes itself as a key player in hosting international sports events.
Sands China and the NBA have entered into a multi-year agreement that will position Macau as a regular host for preseason games. As per reports from the South China Morning Post, the partnership entails hosting two preseason games per year over a span of five years at the Venetian Arena. While the financial specifics of this agreement remain undisclosed, it is evident that this partnership aims to enhance Macau's recognition as a global tourism and leisure destination. Grant Chum, the president and CEO of Sands China, emphasized the company's commitment to bringing high-caliber international events to Macau since 2007 and expressed enthusiasm for the NBA China games finding a permanent home in the newly renovated Venetian Arena.
The association between Sands China and the NBA is a strategic move to bolster Macau's tourism through sports. Patrick Dumont, president and COO of Las Vegas Sands Corp, which is the parent company of Sands China, highlighted the significance of sports in driving tourism. Dumont articulated the vision of enabling fans to experience top-level basketball personally. The ownership of the Dallas Mavericks, an NBA team, by the Adelson family further solidifies the connection between the NBA and Sands China.
NBA's deputy commissioner Mark Tatum shared his excitement about bringing the NBA experience to Macau, anticipating that this initiative will engage fans and the local community through interactive events and development programs. On top of exhibition games featuring NBA legends such as Tracy McGrady and Ray Allen, the initiative includes launching an 'NBA Flagship Store' at The Londoner Macao. This comprehensive plan promises a lively NBA-themed experience throughout the year, extending beyond the games themselves.
