Casino Legend Palace to Cease Operations in Macau

The Casino Legend Palace, prominently situated at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, is slated to cease its gaming operations at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, November 12. This development was formally announced by SJM Resorts Ltd, the holder of the gaming license, through a press announcement on Friday. The decision was concurrently validated by Macau Legend Development Ltd through a Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing.

As part of the operational winding down, all gaming tables and equipment currently stationed at Legend Palace will be reallocated to other establishments managed by SJM Resorts. This move is intended to ensure that loyal patrons continue to be served with the same commitment and dedication at alternate locations.

"Customers holding chips, deposits, or cash rebates accumulated at Casino Legend Palace that remain unredeemed after its closure may visit other casinos operated by SJM Resorts from 13 November onwards for follow-up arrangements," asserted SJM Resorts. The organization reassured its clientele of its commitment to upholding all customer entitlements.

Redeployment and Employment Transitions

SJM Resorts emphasized its dedication to their workforce during this transition. Workers directly employed by SJM Resorts at the Casino Legend Palace will retain their positions and be reassigned to other roles within the company's various casino operations. This reassignment is structured to align with the company's operational necessities.

Moreover, SJM Resorts has made it clear that local staff not directly employed by them will receive priority consideration for job openings within the broader organization. Such personnel will be encouraged to apply for available positions, and SJM Resorts has committed to providing the necessary support to ensure a seamless transition for these employees.

As part of its internal restructuring, Macau Legend Development Ltd has mutually agreed with SJM Resorts on an ‘early termination of the service agreement’ previously allowing it to manage Casino Legend Palace’s operations. As a result, Macau Legend is set to implement measures for an orderly closure at the property.

Impact of the Closure on Macau's Casino Landscape

The impending closure of Casino Legend Palace is a significant shift in Macau’s casino landscape, leaving behind six remaining satellite gaming venues under SJM Resorts' license. These include Casino Landmark, Casino Kam Pek Paradise, Casino Casa Real, Casino Fortuna, Casino Ponte 16, and Casino Le Royal Arc, also known as Casino L’Arc Macau.

Notably, SJM Resorts plans to incorporate the gaming operations at Ponte 16 near the Inner Harbour and L’Arc Macau downtown into its core business operations. The remaining four satellite facilities are expected to discontinue gaming services by the end of the year.

This strategic consolidation by SJM Holdings aligns with new regulatory frameworks, aimed at strengthening its competitive footing on Macau's peninsula. By transferring gaming tables to its main properties, including the Grand Lisboa and an upgraded Casino Lisboa, SJM is poised to solidify its leadership and expand its market reach in the region’s highly competitive casino sector.
