SJM Resorts Announces Bonus for Majority of Employees

Macau-based gaming operator SJM Resorts recently made headlines with the announcement of a generous bonus for its employees. The company revealed that nearly 98 percent of its staff would receive a special discretionary bonus equivalent to one month's salary. This will be distributed on January 20th, 2025, marking a significant tradition among gaming operators who typically reveal bonuses and potential salary revisions during this season. The information was conveyed by Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM Resorts, through an internal memo circulated on a Tuesday. In her communication, Ho underlined that this bonus serves as a token of appreciation for the exemplary contributions and outstanding performance exhibited by employees throughout the past year.

Acknowledging Efforts During a Year of Growth

In her memo, Daisy Ho highlighted how 2024 was a year of substantial achievement for SJM Resorts, crediting this success to the continuous efforts of the staff. She explained that 'SJM Resorts has consistently optimized and innovated its products and services in 2024, achieving steady business growth thanks to the hard work of every team member.' This statement emphasizes the company's commitment to fostering an environment of growth and appreciation for the invaluable work contributed by its employees. The bonus is seen not just as a financial reward but as a testament to the company's recognition of its workforce's dedication and relentless hard work over a transformative year.

Leading the Way in Employee Recognition

Notably, SJM Resorts is leading the charge as the first among Macau's six gaming operators to declare a discretionary bonus for the year 2025. This move by the firm, a part of the Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings, underscores its position as a pioneer in employee recognition and rewards. However, while the memo clarified the provision of the discretionary bonus, it made no mention of any forthcoming salary increases for the upcoming year. This decision sets a precedent for other operators in the region, potentially influencing their strategies in acknowledging and rewarding employee efforts. It reflects the company's strategic emphasis on maintaining employee morale and incentivizing performance, integral aspects that support the ongoing success and competitiveness in Macau's robust gaming industry.
