Macau's Sands China Ltd has commenced its annual "Sands Cares Spring Celebration," marking nearly two decades of community engagement and compassion. This tradition of spreading joy and care within the community took shape with a variety of events to celebrate the season. On February 10, the company, along with its employees and Sands Cares Ambassadors, took time to visit 200 elderly individuals part of the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Services.
These visits involved delivering festive gift packs filled with essentials and bringing warm wishes for the year ahead. This initiative not only continued long-standing visits to Seac Pai Van Public Housing but also extended to the residents of the Edifício do Bairro da Ilha Verde, broadening the circle of community care.
Sands China, since 2008, has partnered with the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Services Centre under the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) to facilitate such festive visits. During these visits, volunteers spent time with the elderly, assisting with their daily needs like household cleaning, minor repairs, and even offering haircuts.
Their interactions embody the compassionate spirit of the "Sands Cares" ethos. This year, adding to the festive spirit, "Everyone Stray Dogs Macau," a local non-profit organization, joined in with their animal companions, enriching the enjoyment and fostering a friendly neighborhood atmosphere.
Wilfred Wong, the executive vice chairman of Sands China, expressed the company's delight in continuing its tradition of community care. "Together with 220 Sands Care Ambassadors, we visited the community to share festive blessings with elderly users of the Peng On Tung service, bringing warmth and companionship during this special season," he said. The team's efforts included preparing 20,000 New Year gift packs that contained both food and daily necessities, personalized with handwritten calligraphy.
Ng Siu Lai, UGAMM's president, praised Sands China's ongoing collaboration, emphasizing how these efforts significantly demonstrate the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility. Besides the elderly visits, Sands Cares Ambassadors also distributed Chinese New Year lunch boxes at the "Corner of Portuguese Cuisine" at the Fuhong Society of Macau's Pou Choi Centre to underprivileged communities.
These sincere acts form a core part of Sands China's "Sands Cares global corporate citizenship programme," aiming to support the community and foster a more harmonious and inclusive Macau.
