MGM China Partners with Macau Tech Firm to Upcycle Playing Cards

MGM China Holdings Ltd, a prominent casino operator in Macau, has embarked on an eco-friendly venture by launching a groundbreaking recycling and upcycling initiative for used playing cards. This pioneering programme, developed in collaboration with the local tech enterprise Fnetlink Technology Co Ltd, marks a significant milestone as MGM China becomes the first casino in the region to implement a comprehensive localised end-to-end system for repurposing playing cards.

Cutting-Edge Card Shredding and Recycling Process

In 2023, MGM China and Fnetlink Technology embarked on an innovative journey to co-develop a state-of-the-art automated card-shredding system. This system enables the used playing cards, an abundant by-product of casino operations, to be efficiently transformed into shredded material.

Without the necessity for water, these shredded cards are processed into 'high-quality' recycled fibres at a local facility. This environmentally responsible approach not only aims to eliminate waste but also contributes to the creation of eco-friendly packaging materials.

Sustainability and Industry Innovation

The full implementation of this upcycling programme is anticipated to significantly impact sustainability efforts by processing approximately 3,000 tons of used playing cards each year. Achieving a remarkable 100-percent recycling rate, the programme underscores MGM China's commitment to sustainable development.

Kenneth Feng Xiaofeng, Chief Executive and Executive Director of MGM China, emphasized their perpetual commitment to pioneering efficient and sustainable solutions through technological innovation. He stated, 'Through innovative initiatives such as this, we hope to inject more creativity and practical possibilities into the diversification of local industries.'

This collaborative effort with Fnetlink highlights MGM’s dedication to integrating technological advancements in resource efficiency and aligning with local enterprises to foster industrial diversification.
