MGM China Holdings Ltd, a leading casino operator in Macau, has initiated an innovative training program in collaboration with Macau's Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL). The program, titled "Professional Workforce Development Series-Emcee Skills Training Programme", aims to enhance the skill set of employees while supporting Macau's meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector, alongside cultural and sports industries.
This initiative highlights MGM China's commitment to building a professional workforce and elevating service standards. According to a press release from MGM China, the training is being coordinated by the Macau Live Streamer and Influencer Association to improve team members' presentation and grooming abilities, thereby enhancing the customer experience.
The development series welcomed the participation of 30 employees from various MGM China departments. These employees engaged in a comprehensive 10-hour training session covering essential areas such as public speaking fundamentals, emcee styling and grooming, stage presentation, and delivery of thematic speeches. Upon successful completion and assessment, participants were awarded a joint certificate from DSAL and MGM China, recognizing their achievement and new skills.
MGM China operates both the MGM Macau resort, located on the city’s peninsula, and MGM Cotai in a newer casino district, positioning itself to influence the tourism and hospitality sectors positively through such training initiatives. Chan Tze Wai, deputy director of DSAL, emphasized that achieving excellence in communication and presentation skills is crucial for professionals in tourism to deliver high-quality services, and this program is a stride towards that goal.
Wendy Yu, the executive vice president of human resources at MGM China, noted in prepared remarks how valuable the company's employees are, describing them as the group’s "most valuable assets." She added that MGM China strives to support their holistic development by enhancing their communication skills, which she posits is key to conveying the corporate image and succeeding in events. The training is not just about skill enhancement; it is about building confidence and professionalism.
Since 2020, MGM China has partnered with DSAL to provide professional training to over 5,700 employees, showcasing their commitment to continuous improvement and workforce development. The company plans to continue offering more learning opportunities to nurture exceptional talents in the industry, reflecting a forward-looking vision aimed at fostering proficiency and excellence in Macau's thriving service sectors.
