Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, a prominent name in Macau’s casino resort industry, has recently submitted trademark applications to the government of Macau. This move is poised to strengthen its brand presence, featuring trademarks associated with Bangkok and Thailand. The licensing branch handling this initiative, Galaxy Entertainment Licensing Ltd, filed the applications on February 10, aiming to secure intellectual property rights for various service sectors including accommodation and food services.
The trademarks in question include combinations like "Galaxy Thailand," "Galaxy Bangkok," and their respective variants involving ‘Integrated Resort’ and ‘Hotel’. Specifically, the names "Galaxy Thailand Integrated Resort," "Galaxy Bangkok Integrated Resort," "Galaxy Resort Thailand," "Galaxy Resort Bangkok," "Galaxy Hotel Thailand," and "Galaxy Hotel Bangkok" are part of the requested titles. These applications highlight Galaxy Entertainment’s strategic expansion plans.
A wider ambition underlies these trademark requests, indicating an exploration into the burgeoning Thai casino market. According to sources, industry interest is fueled by discussions about the potential development of integrated resorts in Thailand. Financial analyses, such as those by banking group JP Morgan, have identified Galaxy Entertainment as one of the few entities expressing interest.
In alignment, a January note from Goldman Sachs emphasized the company’s openness to exploring opportunities for integrated resorts in Bangkok. Currently, Galaxy Entertainment's portfolio includes the Galaxy Macau complex in Cotai and StarWorld Hotel on the Macau peninsula. The Cotai properties host a diverse range of hotel brands, namely Galaxy Hotel, Banyan Tree Macau, Hotel Okura Macau, JW Marriott Hotel Macau, The Ritz-Carlton, Macau, Raffles at Galaxy Macau, Andaz Macau, and Broadway Macau. These brands potentially set a template for the group's prospective ventures in Bangkok or other parts of Thailand, contingent upon the approval of their trademark applications and market developments.
